Mar 2006 State of Maryland Governor's Citation Award
Six MA/D members (and their K-9 partners) received Citations from Maryland's Governor Robert Ehrlich in recognition of their contributions in the recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Lisa Harper & K-9 Titan, Richard Hickman, Bob Hummer, Kristine Mackie, Heath Marshall and Laura Totis & K-9 Aron were honored with State of Maryland’s Governor’s Citations. These Citations were issued by Governor Robert Ehrlich in recognition of these individuals (and their K-9 partners) contributions to the recovery efforts in New Orleans 9th Ward during October and November 2005. The Governor’s Citations read in part “ … your commitment, professionalism and humanitarian response as a volunteer with Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S. and the recovery effort in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and Rita and … the vital role you played in responding to the needs of your fellow Americans during a time of dire emergency.”
Virginia Department of Emergency Management on two separate occasions (October 8 – 17 and November 12 – 20) deployed search and recovery resources, at the request of EMAC, to assist in the recovery effort in New Orleans, 9th Ward. The deployed teams were composed from among various volunteer SAR organizations (including Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S.) that have MOU’s with VA-DEM.
Sept 2002 Federal Bureau of Investigation
On Sept 29th several members of MA/D were recognized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and presented with Certificates of Appreciation for “Exceptional Service in the Public Interest”.
July 2002 Secretary’s Honor Award
On July 8th, Jane Servais received the U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary’s Honor Award for Heroism and Emergency Response in recognition of her extraordinary volunteer work in search and rescue while still performing her regular dutes for USDA.
May 2002 NASAR’S Canine Award
On May 30th, Marian Hardy was honored by the National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) and was presented with the 2002 Canine Award for her “Selfless Devotion to the Search and Rescue Dog Community in Providing Quality SAR Dog Resources and Programs through NASAR.”
March 2002 Howard County Police Department Citizen’s Award
During the Howard County’s Police Department’s Annual Awards Ceremony held on March 26th, Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S. was presented with a Citizen’s Award. The award was given in recognition of their support, commitment, and assistance in a five year homicide investigation which resulted in a conviction.
Dec 2001 Montgomery County Emergency Management
Dec 20th at Montgomery County's EMG Volunteer Appreciation Night, Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S.' and its members received numerous honors:
- The County Executive, Douglas M. Duncan, bestowed Certificate in Recognition and Appreciation to Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S. for the outstanding search and recovery efforts which MA/D members courageously performed under extremely hostile conditions at the Pentagon in response to the tragic events on September 11, 2001. "I applaud those who worked so tirelessly when called into service and who train with the dogs each week in order to be ready to respond during times of crisis requiring urban search and rescue skills."
- The Fire / Rescue Service Emergency Management awarded a Certificate in Recognition and Appreciation for MA/D's ongoing service in support of the County's Public Safety and Emergency Management Agencies during Alzheimer lost person searches, cadaver searches, and especially for the coordination of the SAR Ex multi-agency exercise which improved the skills of responders and will lead in the future to the saving of lives in the community.
- The Fire / Rescue Service Emergency Management also awarded a Certificate in Recognition and Sincere Appreciation for MA/D's outstanding search and recovery efforts at the Pentagon following the attacks of September 11th.
- In addition both County Executive Duncan and Fire / Rescue Service Emergency Management awarded individual certificates in recognition and appreciation to several MA/D members.
Dec 2001 U.S. Police Canine Association, Region 3
During an awards ceremony Dec 15th held at the DC Fraternal Order of Police lodge, U.S. Police Canine Association, Region 3, honored the canine handlers and support personnel that worked tirelessly September 16th to 27th on the Evidence Recovery Unit at the Pentagon in the aftermath of the terrorist attack of Sept 11th. Four MA/D canine teams received a plaque in honor of their work and dedication and were issued a medal for their canine partner. Two MA/D support personnel received an Excellence in Teamwork medal.
In addition, the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia awarded Certificates of Appreciation to the same MA/D members in recognition of their performance in an outstading act that greatly enhanced the mission of the Department.
Nov 2001 State of Maryland’s Governor’s Citation
Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S.' was awarded the State of Maryland's Governor's Citation by Paris N. Glendenning. "In recognition of your organization to assist in the search, rescue and recovery operation of victims in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on the Pentagon … in honor of your ongoing mission and the expert ability, dedication and professionalism of your members; and as an expression of our high regard and sincere appreciation for the courageous work your members have accomplished."
Governor Paris N. Glendenning also awarded individual Governor's Citations to several MA/D members.
Oct 2001 Volunteer Appreciation Award
The Maryland - National Capital Park and Planning Commission presented MA/D with a Volunteer Appreciation Award in "sincere appreciation to Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S. for the voluntary contribution of their personal time and effort to Rescue Programs For Campers at Little Bennett Region Park. We commend you for your dedication to community service."
Dec 2000 Maryland National Capital Park Police
During an awards ceremony held on Dec 8th, MA/D was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Maryland National Capital Park Police (MNCPP). It stated "In recognition of your many valuable contributions to the Canine Unit of the Montgomery County Park Police Division. The time and assistance your members have devoted to the Canine team of Officer Hanan and Stryker are immeasurable."
April 2000 State of Maryland's Governor's Volunteer & Service Award
During an awards ceremony held on April 13th, MA/D member Laura Totis & Torrie were presented the Governor's Volunteer and Service Award in Public Safety. Laura was nominated for this award by John Hopkins University where Laura was employed as a lab technician.
March 1999 Metropolitan Police Department Washington DC
In March 1999, several members of MA/D were presented by the Metropolitan Police Department, Washington DC, Special Operations Division, Harbor Patrol, with Outstanding Service Awards for their continued support and dedication
April 1998 Booker Willoughby Service Dog Award
On April 4th, Silke (Al Rossi, handler) was awarded the Booker Willoughby Service Dog Award by the members of the Lambda Chapter of Omega Tan Sigma at the Virginia - Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Each year the award is issued to recognize and honor a dog that represents the work and dedication of all types of service dogs.
April 1998 Montgomery County, Maryland
On April 30th, several members of MA/D were presented with Certificates in Recognition and Appreciation from Montgomery County’s County Executive Douglas M. Duncan for their volunteer service that have benefited the Department of Fire and Rescue Service and the citizens of Montgomery County.
Sept 1996 Montgomery County, Maryland
On Sept 28th, Jane Servais was presented with a Certificate in Recognition and Appreciation from Montgomery County’s Department of Fire and Rescue Service in Recognition and Appreciation for her exceptional service to Emergency Management by organizing volunteer training programs, responding to emergencies, and for her administrative support to EM staff.
April 1995 Howard County Police Department Citizen’s Award
During Howard County Police Department's Annual Awards Ceremony held April 21st Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S. was presented with a Citizen's Award. The award was given in recognition of their meritorious and exemplary service in law enforcement related manners.
